A Broken Model
The majority of indie filmmakers who have received interest from distributors receive $0 advance dollars for their film. The distributor will then usually keep an average 35% of a film's gross
But before they even split the gross, they pay themselves back for all marketing & release expenses (Industrially known as the P&A budget, Prints & Advertising) and they routinely muddle the numbers so fimmakers receive nothing after their film is released. They also put in the smallest effort possible, showing little willingness to invest in a film release.
A Better Method
Hibernation Films believes in a more equitable relationship with its filmmakers.
Instead of the distributor paying the least amount of money required to release a film, the filmmaker fronts the P&A cost.
This means the filmmaker sets the scale of the release, instead of a bare minimum effort they would get with other distributors.
We work directly with our filmmakers to plan a release that fits precisely what they've always envisioned, so the film gets a release it deserves.
On Your Terms
With the filmmaker paying the P&A budget up front, that means no dollars need to be recouped, and the gross split can happen immediately.
And since the the filmmaker is fronting the cost of the release, they get a discounted gross split, with Hibernation Films only keeping 17.5% instead of the standard 35%
Our services range from VOD only releases to full scale national theatrical releases with PR & marketing campaigns. It's our mission to help filmmakers get their films seen.
